Introducing the Literacy Library Presents series...

This year, the CLPE are delighted to have launched a brand new series of evening events aimed at connecting educators to leading figures in children’s literature. The Literacy Library Presents sessions, which take place in our renovated hall and purpose-built library, give teachers and others working in primary literacy the chance to meet leading children’s authors and illustrators, discover their work first hand and gain inspiration for their own classrooms.

The sessions also present an opportunity for attendees to browse the CLPE's purpose built Literacy Library - home to over 23,000 carefully selected children's books and books on primary pedagogy to improve their awareness of quality texts which have been chosen carefully by our team to raise reading engagement.

Initiating the series, we welcomed Power of Reading duo, Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre who launched their new book, Roly-Poly Flying Pony: Kevin's Great Escape (Oxford University Press) with teachers. This evening focussed on creative activities to bring the book, and their previous novels, Oliver and the Seawigs and Pugs of the Frozen North (two well-loved Power of Reading texts), to life in classrooms.

The second of our Literacy Library Presents events, co-hosted by Bloomsbury Children’s, celebrated National Poetry Day with Children’s Poet and CLiPPA 2019 judge, A.F Harrold. The evening launched A.F’s new book, Midnight Feasts (illustrated by Katy Riddell) and the paperback of The Afterwards, a CLPE Corebook, alongside a night of poetry readings and activities to inspire poetry teaching.

Most recently, on the 27th November, we hosted author-illustrator, and former UK Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child and award-winning YA author, Simon Mason for a panel discussion chaired by our Librarian Ann Lazim. The pair discussed the enduring appeal of teen detective characters and super sleuths in children’s fiction, and shared their work based on the genre. Books were sold by Letterbox Library and there was an opportunity for attendees to get their books signed at the end of the event.

What’s on next in the Literacy Library Presents series? We will be announcing more in 2021, don't miss out...
