The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) is a UK registered charity (no. 1092698) and a company limited by guarantee (no. 04385537) working with all those involved in teaching literacy in primary schools. Our work raises the achievement of children by helping schools to teach literacy more effectively and showing teachers how quality children’s literature can be placed at the heart of all learning. CLPE is committed to safeguarding your personal information. Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all applicable laws concerning the protection of personal information, including the currently applicable Data Protection Act (DPA) and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). How and why we collect information about you
We obtain information about you when you sign into our website, purchase something from us, register for one of our services, or contact us about products and services. We do this in order to improve the services we offer (for example by periodically analysing aggregated, anonymised stats on website usage) and to ensure we are contacting you about training or resources that may be of interest to you.
What information we collect about you
When you register on the CLPE website we ask you to supply this information (note that * means the information is required; otherwise it is optional). You can update this information after registration by logging into the website and going to Account Details at www.clpe.org.uk/user.

When you purchase training or subscriptions on the CLPE website we ask you to supply this information. (Note that * means the information is required; otherwise it is optional)
This data (collected for training events only) is used to send information to attendees and confirm their presence at the event. We delete this data by the start of the calendar year following the end of an academic year – e.g. by Jan 1st 2019 for the academic year 2017/18 unless you are attending training or on a project which takes place over more than one academic year:

This data is collected so we can send an invoice to the appropriate recipient. Given users have to register on our site to purchase this data is kept for as long as the registered user account exists:

This information is only needed for online payment and is not viewed or held by CLPE – it is entered directly into the Paypal website. In using Paypal we assume customers accept their standards of data privacy. For customers who don’t, they should pay by invoice.

Google Analytics is a service we use to monitor traffic levels on the site and its pages. Google stores the information collected by the cookie on servers in the United States. As a part of our process in helping us to give you the best experience possible we use Google to:
- Determine your approximate geographical location by means of your IP address. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.
- Determine whether you are using the site as a registered user or not. The only data that will be collected to enable us to do this is your unique numerical website user ID.
This will be collected when you are using the site signed into your account. We do not share this data with any other third parties and we only use the information to improve how our users engage with our site.

Organisations using CLPE as a venue may capture data for their own purposes. As these events are not being run by CLPE, we do not have access to the data collected. You should contact the relevant organisation for more information.

What we do with your information
We keep your personal data which relates to registered users accounts for the period your registration remains active. Personal data which we collect which doesn’t related to registered accounts will be deleted by the start of the calendar year following the end of an academic year, e.g. by Jan 1st 2019 for the academic year 2017/18, unless you are attending training or on a project which takes place over more than one academic year.

Security precautions and risk mitigation
We take precautions to protect your personal data, including:
Data minimisation – we don’t request unnecessary data or hold it for longer than needed. For example, non-registered user data is deleted by the start of the calendar year following the end of an academic year, e.g. by Jan 1st 2019 for the academic year 2017/18 unless you are attending training or on a project which takes place over more than one academic year.
Data anonymisation – where necessary, we alter data so that it does not identify individuals. For example, web developers working on new versions of the website only work with data which is anonymised.
