All of us at CLPE know just how bonkers life in schools is for you right now, we know that your life is full of one way systems, hand sanitiser and bubbles and that you are working so hard to ensure that the children you teach are continuing to learn and thrive.

You’ve told us that you want to access our training programme but we know with the difficulties associated with getting away from school and travel that this will be hard right now.  So we’ve listened to you and we’ve put together an Online Professional Development programme that we hope will meet your literacy needs.

We haven’t tried to replicate our face to face programme but to offer something different.  It may be that we continue to offer this alongside our usual programme in the times ahead but right now, we’ve devised something that we hope will meet your needs, wherever you are located or wherever you are in your career.

There are three types of online training:

  1. We are continuing to offer our popular Planning Creatively Webinars which take a different book each time and provide you with the planning and the guidance you need to use it in your classroom. These are short, self-contained walk-throughs of our teaching sequences. Your post-webinar email will contain everything you need to get started straight away.
  2. Our brand new Research Series covers all aspects of teaching literacy and will give you the tools you need to plan for progress in reading and writing in every year group; understand the importance of reader identity and support you to use poetry, non-fiction and picture books in your rich reading curriculum.  You can access each session as a stand-alone training or book several for different teachers across your school. Individually they will develop your subject knowledge and your pedagogical content knowledge and collectively they make a coherent online programme to support your school to teach reading and writing creatively and effectively.
  3. We are very pleased to be able to offer an online version of our flagship Power of Reading programme this year. So many of you have asked us to provide this and we believe we’ve found a way of doing so which will bring you all of the benefits this long-standing, proven whole school programme. There are eight sessions, starting in January, which together will enable you to bring the Power of Reading your whole school, developing reading for pleasure and supporting you to build a curriculum based on high quality children’s literature. Thousands of schools have benefited from The Power of Reading - discovering a creative approach to the teaching of reading and writing, engaging children in a love of reading and inspiring them to be writers. We hope that this online programme will enable you to join them this year.

And we will also continue to offer our Literacy Library Presents series.  These events are online at the moment and introduce you to some of the work that we do at CLPE with the very best children’s authors, illustrators and poets to bring you fantastic, quality children’s literature.

Thank you all so much for what you are doing for the children of our nation and we hope that you find something here that will help you. We look forward to seeing you very soon.
