What you will learn:

  • the range of contexts and experiences that meet the needs and interests of children in Years 5 and 6, enabling them to be curious, engaged and motivated to write;
  • how to choose and use high-quality texts to exemplify authentic literary forms and writing voices, provide language models, enrich vocabulary and inspire opportunities for writing;
  • a range of teaching approaches that best support an authentic writing process including building of imaginative ideas, drafting, editing and publication, building writer identity, confidence and control;
  • how to increase sophistication in use of language and vocabulary appropriate to different genres, including sensitivity to register, purpose and audience.

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum.

This is the first of a series of four Teaching Writing online learning sessions. Teachers and leaders can engage in one or all four to embed consistency of practice from Nursery to Year 6.

It was really informative and I’ve taken so much away from it. Thank you!

It was really useful and reinforced what I understood to be best practice in UKS2. I will definitely be taking ideas into the classroom and discussing texts in more depth with the children.
