This online learning session is recorded to support a teacher to access it on demand for 30 days from the release date. It provides rich opportunity for practical engagement and reflection which will support implementation in the classroom.

Explore the key experiences and teaching approaches that support writers in Years 1 and 2.

What you will learn:

  • the writing practices and contexts that meet the needs and interests of children in Years 1 and 2, enabling them to be curious, engaged and motivated to write;
  • how to choose and use quality texts to exemplify authentic writing voices and forms, provide language models, enrich vocabulary and inspire opportunities for writing as part of an authentic writing process;
  • how to enable children to use and apply growing phonic and spelling knowledge to segment and spell words in the context of real writing experiences;
  • strategies and approaches that develop gross and fine motor skills and encourage legibility, fluency and stamina.

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum.

This is part of a series of four online learning sessions: teachers and leaders can attend one or all four to embed consistency of practice from Nursery to Year 6.

What you will receive:

  • a handout of the presentation slides and access to an on demand recording of the online learning session
  • a free Power of Reading teaching sequence and a Take 5 Home Learning Resource, supporting immediate implementation in the classroom.

Price of this online learning session is per person.

Participants receive a pre-registration email three days before the training date with details on how to access the online learning session for 30 days from the release date. If you need support, please email [email protected].
