Explore the key experiences and teaching approaches that support readers in Nursery and Reception.

What you will learn:

  • the contexts which support young children to be engaged and motivated to read for purpose and pleasure, across the provision;
  • how to choose and use quality texts to support the development of key reading experiences, knowledge and skills;
  • teaching approaches that support language development, reader response and comprehension;
  • how to enable children to use and apply growing phonic knowledge to decode and blend words in rich reading contexts;
  • the foundational experiences that best support independence, fluency and stamina;

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

This is the first of a series of four Teaching Reading webinars. Teachers and leaders might attend one or all four to embed consistency of practice from Nursery to Year 6.

What you will receive:

  • a handout of the presentation slides and access to a recording of the webinar;
  • a free Power of Reading teaching sequence as well as a free 'Take 5' home learning resource, supporting immediate implementation at school.

Webinar price is per person.

  • Participants receive a pre-registration email three days before the training date with details on how to join the Zoom session. If you have any issues, please email [email protected].

So many ideas to support a love of reading and for how I can develop my own teaching of reading

Teacher on Teaching Reading in EYFS, 2023

Lots of information of every aspect of reading linked to what we can find in books, which you don’t obviously see when you’re quite new to teaching reading.

Teacher on Teaching Reading in EYFS, 2023

The trainer was very thorough in her presentation. She talked clearly and gave us a chance to discuss ideas. She offered us lots of different ideas to work from and lots of resources.
