This online learning session is recorded to support a teacher to access it on demand for 30 days from the release date. It provides rich opportunity for practical engagement and reflection which will support implementation in the classroom.

Build knowledge and understanding in how to teach phonics in the context of a rich reading curriculum to support children in EYFS to use and apply it in their reading and writing; whichever validated scheme your school may be using.

What you will learn:

  • An introduction into how phonic knowledge develops across the Early Years Foundation Stage, from the foundations of early phonological development to blending and segmenting for reading and writing;
  • The key knowledge, skills and strategies to be developed in EYFS;
  • An overview of the core features of an effective systematic phonics programme and the associated subject knowledge;
  • How to choose and use quality children’s literature to support children's use and application of phonics in their reading and writing in EYFS.

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

This online learning session is part of a three-session package of webinars which provide participants with an introduction to the CLPE book-based approach to teaching phonics across EYFS and KS1 and into KS2 for those children needing further support. Schools can either book leaders on to all three sessions for a complete overview, or book individual teachers on to the sessions that applies to the phases they teach.

What you will receive:

  • 30 day access to a recording of the online session;
  • a handout of the presentation slides;
  • a free Power of Reading teaching sequence as well as a free 'Take 5' home learning resource, supporting immediate implementation at school.
