EVENT DETAILS

Join us for this special event being held on Earth Day where we explore how schools have used key texts to build effective cross-curricular learning.

We know how important it will be for children to engage in a range of experiences and to develop links and connections between themselves and the wider world. We’ll show how you can use books at the centre of the curriculum to develop critical literacy, encourage children’s own voice and activism and support the construction of a curriculum that addresses key and relevant topics like the environment.

The event will focus on:

  • Louise Johns-Shepherd, CLPE's Chief Executive will share CLPE’s research on what makes a quality English Curriculum as we reflect on this post-COVID
  • Anjali Patel, Lead Advisory Teacher will show how we at CLPE put quality children’s literature at the heart of all learning, building a relevant and effective curriculum
  • Vicky Cameron, Headteacher at Bradley Green Primary Academy in Cheshire, will share the impact on such a curriculum on children’s engagement, attainment, and social and emotional well-being
  • The renowned author and campaigner, Nicola Davies will introduce the new film of her best-selling book The Promise and the 2021 CLPE Back to School Campaign, talking about the importance of such a campaign focussing on our environment in the current educational and world landscape.

Do you have a question for Nicola? All attendees will be invited to send your questions for Nicola in advance of the event.

At this event we will also launch our next back to school campaign, a whole school unit based on three key texts to involve school communities in a ‘learning together, growing together’ focus. After the success of our 2020 back to school campaign focused on Oliver Jeffers' 'Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth' we are looking to further support schools with another free unit of work which you can use to start the term in September 2021.

Registration will be via Zoom. Please follow the instructions in your confirmation email and ensure that you register well in advance of the event start time.
