Explore the key experiences and teaching approaches that support writers in Year 3 and 4.

What you will learn:

  • what to expect of writers at this stage of their writing journey and how to support progress and achievement in Lower Key Stage 2;
  • the range of contexts and experiences that meet the needs and interests of children in Years 3 and 4, enabling them to be curious, engaged and motivated to write;
  • how to choose and use quality texts to exemplify authentic literary forms and writing voices, provide language models, enrich vocabulary and inspire opportunities for writing;
  • a range of approaches that support children’s growing independence and stamina as writers and exemplify each element of an authentic writing process, including the building of imaginative ideas, drafting, editing and publication;
  • how to enable children to use and apply knowledge of grammar and spelling in meaningful contexts

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum.

TESTIMONIALS

It was fantastic! Such a refreshing and inspiring take on planning English

Teacher on Teaching Writing in Years 3 and 4 2022/23

The course has shown me the link between teaching writing through reading, and has given me plenty of ideas as to how to put the activities we tried into practice in the classroom.

Teacher on Teaching Writing in Years 3 and 4 2022/23

It will help immensely with structure, engaging and immersing children into the text. I will take everything I can remember back to the classroom. The key questions, activities and unpicking of the text was amazing.

I think this will really boost engagement and my confidence in the teaching
