Enhance knowledge and understanding in how to teach children in Years 5 and 6 to read by using literacy strategies specific to best practice in Upper Key Stage 2, in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum and the end of Key Stage 2 statutory assessments.
This one-day course is designed by experts in Key Stage 2 reading provision. It provides subject knowledge in how to ensure progress in reading through the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience necessary for fluent readers to achieve independence. Particular attention will be given to choosing and using high-quality children’s literature to support the needs and interests of children and to support a variety of reading practices which are proven to develop children's word recognition, fluency, comprehension and stamina, and which foster reading for pleasure across Upper Key Stage 2.
This course is one of four Teaching Reading courses tailored to the needs of children in Nursery to Year 6, meaning teachers can undertake one course on its own or attend all four courses to embed consistency of practice throughout their school.
