Teaching Reading – one day, whole school INSET
This training day offers guidance on how develop purposeful, creative and inclusive approaches designed to guide children’s reading across the Primary years. It will strengthen practitioner knowledge of progression in reading and the role quality children’s literature can play in supporting the reading journey. It will exemplify how planning around quality children’s literature can develop children’s fluency, improve comprehension and motivate young readers. It will demonstrate how dialogic reading approaches benefit and engage groups of children to think critically about texts and deepen reader response.
As part of the training, your teachers will receive teaching sequences detailing planning to support in the immediate implementation of ideas from the course to guide readers in their own classrooms.
The training day will focus on the following key areas:
- What does the reading journey look like?
- What do we mean by guiding reading?
- Developing dialogic reading in group sessions.
- Exploring the potential of key texts, exemplified through teaching sequences to support both developing and independent readers
