CLPE Conference - Achieving Greater Depth in Reading throughout the Primary Years
Please note: this conference originally organised for 27 March 2020 has been rescheduled to 26 March 2021 with all speakers reconfirmed.
CLPE’s second conference of the year brings together a range of speakers to support you to develop subject knowledge, understand the national context and plan for all your children to become independent and engaged readers using a range of quality texts.
We are delighted to have a range of keynote speakers including:
Cressida Cowell - Current Children's Laureate and author of the Emily Brown books, How to Train Your Dragon and Wizards of Once series
Cressida will share her experience in writing for and in engaging readers as well as her Children's Laureate Charter which underpins everything good readers need to be successful.
Andrew McCallum - Director of the English and Media Centre
Andrew will outline how to teach vocabulary effectively in the context of reading, drawing on evidence from recent and relevant research.
The National Literacy Trust will be presenting on the findings of their annual survey into reading, which now includes findings from 5-8 year olds.
Charlotte Hacking - CLPE Central Learning Programmes Leader
Charlotte will be discussing the CLPE Reading Scale and how teachers can support all readers in their journey to independence.
Farrah Serroukh - CLPE Regional Learning Programmes Leader
Farrah will present on how we ensure all of our children see themselves in quality texts, drawing on the findings from our Reflecting Realities report.
The conference will also feature phase-specific workshops that will focus on planning to develop the key skills, knowledge and understanding that children need to become mature, independent and engaged readers, led by our expert teaching team, Anjali Patel, Darren Matthews, Katie Myles and Jonathan Rodgers.
Tales on Moon Lane children's bookshop will also join us on the day, selling a wide variety of books including texts by Cressida Cowell who will be available for book signing.
