Chartered College Teacher Twilight - The Power of Pictures: Changing practice through research
Our next Chartered College Network twilight event focusses on our Power Of Pictures research project. The evening will be a chance to share findings from schools and teachers involved in the CLPE's Randomised Control Trial with the Education Endowment Fund and the Royal Society of Arts, and will discuss how the Power of Pictures has supported teachers' subject knowledge of picture books as well as highlighting the impact of illustration on the children involved in the project.
Charlotte Hacking, Learning Programme Leader at CLPE, will explore the rationale behind the project and explore the aproaches used with teachers and children in the project alongside the outcomes and key findings.
Emily Mitchell, Year 5 Classteacher and Power of Pictures project teacher at Julian's Primary, Streatham will explore the impact of the project on her own learning and on the children in her school, including the wider impact on children's literacy.
We are also delighted to welcome author-illustrator Viviane Schwarz as a guest speaker. Viviane has been one of the course leaders on the project and works regularly with teachers across the country. She will be speaking about her work and involvement with schools across the UK, as part of the programme.
Throughout the session there will be opportunities to reflect on and discuss the research underpinning the approaches shared, within the context of the challenges and demands of the contemporary classroom.
Tickets for this special event are only £5 including a glass of wine or soft drink.
Registration for the event opens at 5pm. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to purchase a range of quality picturebooks to support children of all ages from from Letterbox Library and Viviane Schwarz will be available for signing.
