Chartered College Teacher Twilight – The Reader in the Writer: Linking literature and writing development across the primary years
Join us at CLPE for our final Chartered College Network event of the year in which we will be sharing how teachers can bring reading and writing together effectively in the teaching of literacy. This session foccusses on the role reading plays in developing writers and the value of being immersed in quality literature. The evening will draw on classroom-based learning from teachers involved in CLPE’s world-renowned Power of Reading programme as well as 15 years’ worth of insights garnered from delivering this programme.
We are delighted to have award winning writer Sita Brahmachari speaking, who will give a unique insight into her authentic writing process and how her reading shapes her writing.
Whitehill Junior School Deputy Headteacher and English Lead Anna Beresford will share her school’s vision for a rich writing curriculum and how this has been implemented, supporting children to ‘think as a writer and respond as a reader’.
Throughout the session there will be opportunities to reflect on and discuss the research underpinning the approaches shared, drawing on CLPE’s seminal publication The Reader in the Writer. This will all be considered within the context of the challenges and demands of the contemporary classroom.
At the end of the session, attendees will be able to purchase books from inclusive booksellers Letterbox Library and Sita Brahmachari will be available for signing.
Tickets for this special event are only £5 including a glass of wine or soft drink. Registration begins from 5pm and attendees will receive free copies of our CLPE publication Writing: What We Know Works.
