Teaching Resources

CLPE is proud to be a National Poetry Day Partner. We have contributed resources to support schools in celebrating National Poetry Day in the Classroom creating a resource for Key Stage 2 on the 2018 theme of Change.  You can download at the bottom of this page.

We have also written a teaching sequence for the National Poetry Day Anthology: Poetry for a Change. This sequence helps the whole school to celebrate National Poetry Day with ideas for a whole school launch, activities for Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6 and further ideas for a whole school celebration to conclude the project.

Please find poems around the theme of change (including one specially written for NPD from CLiPPA 2018 winner Karl Nova) with contributions from Ruth Awolola and Sue Hardy- Dawson

The National Poetry Day website has a bank of further teaching resources you can use in your school to celebrate this important day in the poetry calendar.

We know that schools who use poetry in the ways listed below have children and teachers that are more confident and more engaged poetry readers and writers. This section of Poetryline contains materials to support best practice in the teaching of poetry. For more information please refer to our publication Poetry in Primary Schools: What we know works.
