Je m'appelle Yusef

J'ai quatorze ans

J'aime jouer au football et lire des bandes dessinees

J'ai deux freres plus ages

Je fais semblant que je ne suis pas bon en francais

Poem

Billy chased me round the playground
with hands full of fists

Billy yelled at me across the football pitch
with a mouth full of stings.

Not Matthew.
He hasn't learnt to read my face.
He's got digital. A disgrace!
I reach to ten.

Poem

The building is white,
ivy eating its way up the broken walls,

Poem

and didn’t eat lunch

and I almost got arrested

and I hate math

and tomorrow we have to play basketball in gym class

and I’m not that good

Poem

He's the Keepy-Uppy Kid.

Poem

A new boy joined our class today.
His eyes are red, his skin is grey.
He will not come outside to play.
I think he needs a friend.

Overheard in a Tower Block
Poem

I’m amazing

Seriously I’m really very cool

When I went to school

With the headmaster

I drafed the rules.

We studied my hair

My cares

Poem

Miss Flotsam was my reception teacher.
She had travelled the world.
Brown hair turned golden
under distant suns,
clothes carrying colours

When Mom says

she's decided to go back to work,

you're not too surprised,

'cause you know

how much she misses

being around horses

since Dad moved
