Poem

Fire under footfall.
Fire over skies.

Fire on a matchstick.
Fire in my eyes.

Fire holding hunger.
Fire seeking wood.

Fire hiding danger.
Fire feeling good.

Poem

Forest could keep secrets
Forest could keep secrets

All the Best - Roger McGough
Poem

I give you clean air

You give me poisonous gas.

I give you mountains

You give me quarries.

I give you pure snow

You give me acid rain.

Poem

The biggest berries are in the centre
of a tunnel of thorny bushes.
A shark gaping wide,
promising not to nip.

Poem

Hummingbird
hummingbird
humming a tune,
happy in June
(when flowers
and roses bloom)
sipping nectar
its favourite food,
loved also by bees.

Poem

'Why do you run?' I asked the river,
'So fast I can't compete.'
'I run,' the river said, 'because
I have some streams to meet.'

Poem

We're floating into the blue,
Me and my blue balloon.
Over the rooftops of the town,
The brown fields and the trees
And the Downs – we're floating,

Poem

We watch them, hypnotized.
Pale and mysterious,
They rise and fall. Joe says
“They look like ghosts.”

Poem

The jellyfish
dances through the water
waving its frilly underwear.

We found one on the beach.

It had become a polythene bag
full of water.

Poem

I am in a forest;
My brothers will never find me here.
Over my head is a green umbrella;
I feel the earth under my bare feet.
