Valerie Bloom is announced as the winner of the CLPE Children's Poetry Award (CLiPPA) 2022

Valerie Bloom wins the CLiPPA 2022 (CLPE Children’s Poetry Award) with a collection, Stars with Flaming Tails, illustrated by Ken Wilson-Max (Otter-Barry Books), described as “a passport to the whole world” .

The announcement took place at the CLiPPA award show at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. The show featured performances from all the shortlisted poets, children from schools across the UK and live illustrations by Chris Riddell and was hosted by poet and 2021 CLiPPA winner Michael Rosen. Children from schools across the UK made up the audience with young winners of the Shadowing Scheme performing poems from each of the shortlisted collections live on stage alongside the poets. 

The other shortlisted collections are: 

Being Me Poems about Thoughts, Worries and Feelings by Liz Brownlee, Matt Goodfellow and Laura Mucha, illustrated by Victoria Jane Wheeler, Otter-Barry Books;  

Caterpillar Cake by Matt Goodfellow, illustrated by Krina Patel-Sage, Otter-Barry Books;

The Crossing, Manjeet Mann, Penguin;  

Cloud Soup by Kate Wakeling, illustrated by Elina Brasliņa, The Emma Press.

The CLiPPA is delivered in partnership with the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) and supported by Arts Council England.
