CLPE announces new partnership with Cloudaloud

CLPE and Cloudaloud, the UK’s only audiobook streaming app just for children, are announcing a new partnership to make literature more accessible to all.

In our 50th year, this partnership will help make even more fantastic children’s stories and poems accessible to children at our Literacy Library, where Cloudaloud have set up a listening station to let visiting teachers, schoolchildren and families discover the magic of stories and poetry through audio.

The announcement about the partnership is a timely one with our CLiPPA ceremony fast approaching on the 8 July. The 2022 shortlist is available on the Cloudaloud app, and Cloudaloud will continue to publish previous years’ CLiPPA winners in audio on an ongoing basis.

In recent years, but especially since the start of the pandemic, children’s engagement with audiobooks has been the subject of several studies. The National Literacy Trust’s research, particularly, shows that children in the UK are both benefiting from audio and becoming more adept at enjoying the medium. Audio provides a different way of learning, one which children love. Bringing it into the classroom can improve more than literacy rates; after listening, children are proven to be more interested in reading, more inspired to write and have higher levels of wellbeing.

Charlotte Hacking, Learning and Programme Director, CLPE adds: “At CLPE, we know that poetry is a very special genre. It provides the gateway for so many young readers and writers in their journey towards becoming literate; delighting, supporting and engaging children as they build a love of literature. It’s particularly important for poetry to be heard as well as read. This is how it really comes alive for children. Partnering with Cloudaloud is such an exciting opportunity for us, as we’ll be able to make the outstanding children’s poetry recognised by the CLiPPA available to children in a new and engaging way.”

Dr Katie Sparks, CEO, Cloudaloud comments: “With this new partnership, we are actively continuing our mission of making quality children’s literature more accessible to children in the UK and helping to support their education and literacy journey. And what better partner than the CLPE to share this work with? Their dedication across decades to promoting children’s literacy has been equal parts impressive and inspiring. We hope many more children will discover the joy of a good story or poem through this new audio partnership.”
