CLiPPA 2023 Judges Announced

The Judging panel for the CLiPPA (CLPE Poetry Award) 2023 have been announced. This year's CLiPPA sees the 20th anniversary of this celebration of new poetry for children. 

The judges are:

  • Chris Riddell OBE, illustator, artist, political cartonist for the Observer and former Children's Laureate who will chair the judging panel;
  • Valerie Bloom MBE, CLiPPA 2022 winner for Stars with Flaming Tails and author of other poetry volumes for adults and children;
  • Jay Bhadricha, Head of Programmes at Forward Arts Foundation, the charity responsible for the Forward Prizes for Poetry and National Poetry Day;
  • Indigo Williams, British-Nigerian writer, Spoken Word Educator and a Project Manager at BookTrust for the BookTrust Represents project;
  • Charlotte Hacking, Learning and Programme Director at CLPE

The CLiPPA shortlist will be announced on 3 May 2023.

Schools will be encouraged to take part in poetry performance through the launch of the CLiPPA Shadowing scheme and can register their interest now with the scheme opening in May. There will be a Shortlist celebration with Poetry by Heart at the Globe on 26 June with the winners announced at a special CLiPPA Poetry show at the National Theatre on 10 July which will also include performances from the winning shadowing scheme schools.
