An autocratic cat insists that a frog must sit on a log no matter how uncomfortable it may be in this hilarious picture book which pokes fun at rules and regularity. Poor frog suggests many possibilities for relaxing places to sit but there is always another animal that takes precedence because its name rhymes. (Mats are a particular no-no.) Frog enters the game and starts asking where all kinds of animals should sit and the locations become more and more laughable: ‘gibbons sit on ribbons’, ‘pumas sit on satsumas’. It soon becomes apparent that not all words that rhyme are spelt the same: ‘cows sit on ploughs’, ‘newts sit on flutes’ so this is an excellent way of having phun with fonics.
