Jamela's Dress

Author: Niki Daly
Illustrator: Niki Daly
Publisher: Frances Lincoln

Jamela so loves the beautiful material that her mother has bought to make a dress to attend a wedding that she wraps it around herself and, oblivious to how dirty and torn it is becoming, she parades around the South African township where she lives. It could be a disaster but rescue comes in the shape of prize money won by a neighbour who takes a photograph of the incident and so turns it into a triumph. A warm and humorous story with universal appeal which has a clearly specific cultural and geographical setting.
