The Cat in the Hat

The cat wreaks havoc in the house of two children whose mother is away for the day; the proceedings are viewed with horror by a pet fish who plays the role of conscience. The rhyming text uses very simple vocabulary but never patronises the reader; it gets a good deal of fun out of old-fashioned reading schemes.
