An alphabet book that celebrates the variety of the avian world. Each picture is exquisitely devised, often complementing the opposite page in terms of colours and form. Birds are sometimes depicted in flight or in their natural habitat and at other times in a stylised setting which is in keeping with the book’s overall design. The nuggets of information contained in the rhyming verse could be a starting point for finding out more, whether the bird named is familiar or exotic. Questioning of the poetic licence used in the text could lead to investigation into the truth about some of these feathery friends: are robins really ‘the sweetest of sweet’?
