Charlie is a consultant specialising in transformation, publishing and management, following 25 years experience in magazine media, across journalism, brand and business strategy and development, publishing and marketing, advertising, and organisational development. He has also held industry and pension governance roles.
He was inspired to become a trustee because he believes that encouraging and developing reading and writing interest and skills in young people has never been more important, as video, games and very short form communication in digital media threaten to swamp their attention.
Charlie states "I am delighted to be involved with helping to grow CLPE’s vital work, which has direct, practical impacts on reading and writing for young people, aiding teachers who need all the support they can get as education comes under increasing pressure".
Reading has been hugely important to Charlie in his life and career, continually opening up new worlds of the imagination and thought, and a source of great pleasure. One of his earliest reading memories is of the tale of Henny Penny, with her fear of the sky falling on her head - which still gets to him now! He still enjoys that anticipation of the wonderful and the weird every time he opens a book.
