Power of Reading Training

This four day programme shows teachers how to build a book-based curriculum by putting children’s literature at the heart of their primary English curriculum. The programme develops teachers’ subject knowledge and understanding of proven pedagogical approaches.

The Power of Reading is a long standing programme which was first developed in 2005. It has a rich evidence base and has raised achievement in more than 5000 schools. 98% of teachers saw improved engagement in children’s reading and 97% saw an improvement in children’s writing. Children who are part of the programme make an additional six months progress compared to their peers. "The CPD is fantastic and has really got me thinking about my department and the curriculum in a way I haven't thought of in the past. It's a real help. Thank you." PoR Online attendee 2021

I am more enthusiastic in my teaching, my pupils have become more engaged, and there is far more speaking, listening, vocabulary, drama, role-play, art and writing woven throughout my teaching" Joanna Shobbrook, Year 5/6 Teacher, St Michael’s Primary School.
