Where the River Runs Gold

When Shifa and Themba, who had always believed themselves to be twins, are placed at the Freedom Fields Farms, they do not anticipate the harsh conditions they will have to endure in their work as pollinators, caused by the disappearance of bees. Will they ever be able to escape and return to their papa Nabil and their home near the Flower Tracks?

This is a dystopian but ultimately hopeful novel due to the love of nature and of humanity that shines through the characterisation and the writing. However, the themes around child exploitation, inequality and climate crisis have roots in today’s reality.
