In a world in which so many walls and barriers are being built, this picture book challenges the prejudices and assumptions people make about others and their often irrational and unfounded fears. A cheery character dressed in armour explains why the wall in the middle of the book protects the side of the book on which he lives and keeps it safe from a marauding ogre. However, readers can see that the situation is not as he describes. A book with a minimal text which would stimulate discussion with a wide range of readers.

It joins a small coterie of picture books (albeit with very different themes!) in which the gutter between the page is used to imaginative effect such as Alfie Gets in First by Shirley Hughes and This book just ate my dog! by Richard Byrne.
