‘Horrible Histories’, with their catchy alliterative titles, have proved very popular with children. They combine humour with real historical facts in a lively way. The text is broken up into small, quite closely printed, chunks and is punctuated with cartoons and quizzes. Primary sources such as contemporary reports are used. There is no index, so the reader needs to browse or read from cover to cover.
