CLPE launching Forest to Fortress in partnership with Kensington Palace

This Spring, the CLPE is undertaking a unique project in collaboration with the Historic Royal Palaces.

The project, entitled Forest to Fortress, is aimed at KS1 pupils and will bring together the historical narrative of Peter, whose dislocation from a life in the forests of Germany to the court of King George I at Kensington Palace, will be explored alongside a key CLPE picture book, Wild by Emily Hughes.

As part of the project, Kensington Palace will be running free literacy learning sessions for local school-children. Drawing thematic links between the two tales and Kensington Palace, Forest to Fortress will allow children to critically reflect and empathise with characters while helping develop their speaking and listening skills and expressive language.

Registered teachers will receive a free copy of Wild as well as a specially written CLPE teaching sequence to introduce children to key themes, and the ethical and moral dilemmas posed by the stories. The resources will support literacy and history learning pre- and post- the visit.

Note: Allocation is first come first serve and will be limited to a maximum of two classes per school.
