Celebrating World Book Day with Friars Primary School!

On Thursday 8th March, the CLPE, alongside thousands of teachers and children across the UK, celebrated World Book Day. The annual event is designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, is marked in over 100 countries and is the biggest celebration of its kind.

At the Centre, we were delighted to participate in the day’s festivities by welcoming Reception, Year 1 and Year 3 children from Friars Primary School in Southwark. Children, arriving in character-inspired costumes, were invited to share a story with Primary Advisory teachers and CLPE staff. Each year group heard a story read aloud from one of our Advisory Teachers, and then had the chance to select their own titles to read aloud from our Literacy Library. Both children and teachers alike found new titles to share with each other, whilst others re-discovered well-loved classics.

The day showcased to all the importance, and pleasure, of hearing stories shared and read out loud. Thank you to Friars Primary School for making it such a special day for everyone at the CLPE!
