Darren Matthews - Primary Advisory Teacher

Darren is an experienced classroom practitioner. Following his training at York St John’s University, he had the benefit of teaching across all phases in a range of London primary schools and held a wide number of different leadership posts, including Deputy Head Teacher, with special responsibility for English, ICT and Music, Early Years Foundation Stage and Curriculum Development.

He has a particular interest in the importance and impact of the creative arts in primary education, including drama, music and storytelling. He has experience running a number of successful book clubs for less experienced or reluctant readers.

The books that made Darren a reader were The Worried Ghost by Seymour Reit (partially due to the wonderful illustrations by Quentin Blake) and The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis, which was bought for him as a box set on his 9th birthday.
